Cruise News

Bob Arias, with Ron Hughes

EYC Cruisers continue their exploits on the Bay, to the extent that the Commodore fears we won't be seen until the fall. Au contraire, just come by on Thursday nights!

This article answers the classic navigator's questions: Where have we been, Where are we, Where are we going, and How do we get there!

We cruised up the Chester River to the Corsica River on a hot but windy weekend (think sailing in front of a hair dryer). 12 boats with 25 people enjoyed a traditional raftup, including lots of "new" cruisers. Thanks to the Greves for organizing.

We had a highly successful Potluck Dinner Cruise to Plum Creek off the Severn, on Bob and Kathy Arias' deck. Light air, expensive fuel, and expected thunderstorms kept the anchorage to only 4 boats (3 with green hulls!), but the land yacht contingent brought the total participation to nearly 40. And it DID rain! Food turned out great; perhaps practicing for the highly-competitive and famous (or infamous) Gourmet Cruise on August 16. Full report next month.

Coming up in September: Beginning August 30, we will have a Labor Day weekend cruise, which will flow into a week's cruise southbound to Crisfield, hosted by Ann and Bob Whitcomb. (410 849 3072). Detailed plans are still in flux, but the general idea is to arrive at Crisfield no earlier than Tuesday, allowing those only doing the weekend to turn around at the Little Choptank or the Putuxent. Once in Crisfield, Ann (a native) has lots of ideas on things to do, such as kayaking, walking tours, museums, crab feasts, taking a boat to Tangier, fishing trips, etc. DETAILS BELOW

On the last weekend in September (27-28), we sailing to Baltimore, staying at the Inner Harbor East Marina. We’ll be arranging Happy Hour and Dinners. Boats will need to make own slip reservations at 410 625-1700. Please tell them that you are with the EYC group and which nights you want to stay. Or you can come by land yacht. Questions: call Bob Arias at 410 923 3094 (cell 410 925 3033).

Optional: Orioles home game with the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon 9/28 . Yes, we know the O's aren't doing so well, but think of it as a social event. If at least 12 people sign up by Thursday 9/11/08, we'll get group tickets and our name in lights. Please send checks payable to Robert Arias (or cash) for $40 per person to 1112 Ridge Place, Crownsville MD 21032.

Remember, every Thursday is “cruisers’ night” at the club. Just look for the long table, and join us for dinner. This is an excellent way to set up impromptu weekend raft-ups, get extra crew, or get yourself invited onto Someone Else’s Boat to head south on the ICW or to de islands, mon.
