EYC Cruisers have been actively plowing the waters of the Chesapeake (and perhaps the bottoms, too).
The Wye River Event went great, with 50 boats, many land yachts, and 140 people playing games, eating chicken, racing dinghies, and generally having a good time.
The Swan Creek Cruise on June 7-8 was "interesting." Predictions of a heat wave caused many to drop out. Then, the worst fog anyone can remember (at least for the Chesapeake) descending on Saturday morning, causing an "official" cancellation. But Clairboyant was already in Rock Hall, and Dreamweaver still went on both hulls (but only one engine).
On June 14, at least four EYC Cruisers participated in the Leukemia Cup race. We were in the "cruising class," where our best finisher (the Heaney's Following Seas) was 6th (of 11), thus proving that we "don't normally race." But a good time was had by all (especially at the crew party) and the fight against blood cancers was helped.
Coming up in July is the week-long 4th of July Cruise, beginning June 28, otherwise known as “sloshing around the Choptank.” The itinerary is designed so you can join us or leave us at any time, since you’ll never be no more than a day away from home. Of course, you might not want to leave, as there will be the opportunity to see lots of fireworks and a crab feast in Cambridge. Hanne Merry (410-268-3198, cell 443-534-1080) and Iris Littig (410 263 2074, cell 410 562-2529) are coordinating. This cruise includes the Crab Feast at the J.M. Clayton Co. in Cambridge. Anyone can come by land or by sea.
On July 19-20, we cruise to the Chester River, anchoring in the Corsica River bight, where we will try to create a "sunflower raft." Coordinating this challenge will be Rob and Carroll Greve (410 990-1642, cell 443 995-1172)
Planning ahead? Mark you calendar for August 2 for the cruise to Plum Creek, where Bob and Kathy Arias will host a picnic on their deck, and August 16 for the annual Gourmet Cruise, this year hosted by Bill Sieling at the Bay Ridge community beach. Start planning your food contest entrant now! (The Spam award will be especially competitive)..
Remember, every Thursday is “cruisers’ night” at the club. Just look for the long table, and join us for dinner. This is an excellent way to set up impromptu weekend raft-ups, get extra crew, or get yourself invited onto Someone Else’s Boat.
