Solomons Gear Alert: NEW DEADLINES!
The 28th Annual SOLOMONS ISLAND INVITATIONAL is next on the EYC regatta calendar! July 18th is around the corner and regatta registration is open online at http://race.eastportyc.org. Once again EYC will host the Awards Party for the regatta the following Saturday, July 26th at EYC. This Awards Party will also honor the women who race that day in the CASA Chesapeake Bay Women's Challenge. In response to the racers' request, the SOLOMONS REGATTA GEAR features UA wicking shirts (polos and tees) for the men and V-neck (polos and wicking tees) for the women. The Solomons logo will be embroidered on both the polos (red) and screen printed on both the tees (navy). Boat names are available on the polos. Racers and EYC members should PRE-ORDER your Solomons gear ASAP. The order deadline for pre-race delivery (NEW – July 5) and awards party delivery (NEW – July 9) are coming fast! Samples are hanging in the EYC Dining Room along with order forms. All details and order forms are also available at http://eycbash.com. A small number of shirts will be available for purchase at the Awards Party and you may place orders there for August delivery as well. Questions? E-mail eastportycspecialevents@gmail.com or call Ann Bangert 410-544-1013.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for the Awards Party. Please sign up on the board at EYC or with Volunteer Chair Susan Broaddus (srbroaddus@gmail.com or 410-267-0176) to work a shift at the Awards Party.
Festive Fourth!!
Get ready for Independence Day festivities at your club, with the best view of the fireworks around, coming up on Friday, July 4! The club will be open all day, but lunch will be served only until 2 p.m. so the kitchen staff can set up for a casual picnic-style buffet starting at 6:30 p.m. ($12/adults, $5/kids 4-11). Admission to the club for the evening party, starting at 6 p.m., is free to members, who may bring guests for $10/person (no limit on numbers, unlike Blue Angels). Don't forget that members must sign their guests in and accompany them at all times. There will be live music from Dean Rosenthal and the Resophonics, to put the icing on the cake. See you there!
Legislative Alert
If federal legislation is not passed this summer, every boat in the U.S. will need a new court-imposed EPA discharge permit to legally operate after 9/30/08. While both Maryland Senators Cardin and Mikulski have signed on to the “Clean Boating Act of 2008”, only one Maryland Representative - Ruppersberger from Baltimore, has cosponsored the bill. Even if you have contacted your Representatives in Congress in the last year about this issue, we strongly urge to send them another email or call them, and ask that they push for the Clean Boating Act of 2008, Senate Bill #2766/House Bill #5949 to get to a full Senate and House vote, and to vote YES. To learn more visit boatus.com/gov and to quickly send an email, use www.boatblue.org <http://www.boatblue.org/> . And don’t forget that because EYC is a BoatU.S. Cooperating Group, membership in BoatU.S. (which is one of the main groups working to get this permit repealed) is available to you at half price - $12.50/year.
